By definition, it’s a noun, meaning: the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books.
According to Wikipedia, graphic design is the process of visual communication and problem-solving through the use of typography, photography and illustration.
Those all sound fantastic and are accurate, however design is so much more than that. It’s an art, a passion, a manner of expression that can be used to convey a message in a way that words on their own, may not always be able to deliver.
It’s a freedom to express your take on life, whether it be for a project or just something you feel needs to be said, or rather, illustrated.
This may come more naturally to some people than others. Yes, it is a skill than can be learned. However I do believe you are able to tell whether there is passion involved in what you see.
I have always found it fascinating how many people can look at one thing and derive many different interpretations of the same thing. This display of individuality and creativity is really astounding.
Yes, you definitely need to have the skills to know how to use the appropriate software etc, but you also need to be able to want to learn. One of the biggest assets, I believe is being able to take criticism, at least, when it’s constructive. 😊👀
At INF-P (yes some people hear the name and say, huh??!, it stands for infinite possibilities), we believe that when it comes to design, there is very little that me be impossible.
